Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to bring my own fishing gear?
At Terry’s Boat Harbor, we take the “work” out of fishing. Your guide provides high-quality fishing rods, reels, bait, and tackle. You are welcome to bring a favorite rod if you prefer, but it is not necessary.
What should I bring with me on the boat?
The most important item is a valid Minnesota fishing license, which you should purchase before arriving. We also recommend bringing:
- Weather-appropriate clothing (layers are best, as it’s often cooler on the water).
- Rain gear, polarized sunglasses, and sunscreen.
- Snacks and beverages (coolers are often provided, but check with your specific guide).
- A camera to capture your trophy catch.
How long do the guided trips last?
Most of our private guides offer half-day (4-hour) and full-day (8-hour) options. Some guides also offer 6-hour trips or can customize the duration to fit your group’s needs.
Will the guide clean my fish?
Yes! Most of our professional guides offer complimentary fish cleaning and packaging services so your catch is ready to take home.
What happens if there is bad weather?
Safety is our top priority. If there is dangerous weather—such as lightning or extreme winds—your guide will work with you to reschedule or refund your trip.
Is it customary to tip my fishing guide?
While never required, it is standard practice to tip your guide for excellent service. A common gratuity is 10–20% of the trip’s base price
