We checked ice again yesterday and there was no change from last week. 5 inches of new snow and above normal temperatures were why. The majority of the ice on the main lake is 11 to 11 1/2 inches thick. We also found areas of 7 to 10 inch ice with more areas of slush. This ice is not thick enough to safely drive a truck on. Some people are driving trucks on the lake so you can expect some of them are going to go through. If we do not get several days of 20 below zero plus the ice on Mille Lacs will never be safe for truck travel this winter. We will not jeopardize someones life to sell a road pass. Unfortunately there are businesses on Mille Lacs that will. We would love to have our extensive winter road system open to the flats but we cannot do it with the current ice conditions. We are allowing four wheeler and snowmobiles to go out. Fishing has been okay but not consistent some very good days some days are slow this is true in the bays and flats as well.
