10/12/2024 Walleye fishing continues to be slow, warm water temps and a abundance of bait fish has made the bite slow. Some big perch are being caught on the flats but that bite is not consistent it has been good some days but other days very slow. Smallmouth bass fishing continues to be good a lot of people are now using small suckers for the bass. Some northern pike and muskies have been caught but very few people are fishing them.

9/17/2024 Walleye fishing continues to be slow. DNR test nets for bait fish results show extremely high numbers of perch, tullibees and young walleyes. This is certainly good for the health of the lake and the fish population. However it makes walleye fishing difficult because the fish simply are not hungry. As water temps drop later in the fall the walleye bite normally improves. Smallmouth bass fishing most days continues to be good. 09/02/2024 Walleye fishing during the day continues to be slow. The night bite is better but that also has not been great some keeper walleyes are being caught. Some Jumbo perch are also being caught in the evening. Smallmouth bass fishing has been good during the day some days the mornings are better other days the afternoons have been better but at some point they are biting good everyday. Walleye fishing will improve as we get into fall with cooler water temperatures and decreasing bait fish numbers. Some big Muskies and Northern Pike are also being caught in the bays. The largest Muskies are being caught on the Mud Flats.

6/06/2024 Walleye fishing continues to be very good. Some walleyes are still being caught on the Rock points especially in the evening. The mud flats are the best bet during the day and the evening action is also good. Leeches and night crawlers are now the best live baits for the walleyes. Smallmouth bass fishing

01/20/2023 The ice on Mille Lacs is not good a lot of slush and snow. The ice thickness is way below normal for this time of the year. We are finding the good black ice in the 10 to 12 inch range with some areas only being 9 inches. I had one of my regular customers stop in and told me he had went out with his truck and wheel house this past weekend on the southern part of the lake because we have not let any trucks out. He said at best the ice might have been 12 inches he drilled his holes the night he arrived and in the morning there was a foot of water around his house. He said he had a very difficult time getting back off the lake because of the deep slush. Ian Leonard on channel 9 the last few weeks has been warning people that this years ice does not have the same strength as ice on a normal winter because of a Igloo effect. He said because of the amount of snow and lack of normal below zero weather the ice is not getting thicker and in fact is being fractured by the warmer water under the ice. The ice this winter is not safe for truck traffic some resorts are driving on it but in my opinion they are putting there customers life’s at risk, I will not do that. I am only letting ATV’s and Snowmobiles out. Walleye fishing over all has been pretty good in the bay and real good on the mud flats. Some of the fisherman told me even on the flats when they have drilled some holes water has come up and flooded the area where they were fishing.

01/20/2023 The ice on Mille Lacs is not good a lot of slush and snow. The ice thickness is way below normal for this time of the year. We are finding the good black ice in the 10 to 12 inch range with some areas only being 9 inches. What is troubling is that we found several areas where there is only 6 inches of the good black ice. The ice is not thick enough for safe truck travel in fact we had reports of several trucks going through the ice this weekend. 12-26-2022 We just checked the ice and the slush has froze. Travel is good for snowmobiles and ATV’S. Ice various from 9 to 14 inches with good black ice being in the 9 to ten inch range not enough for us to plow roads with trucks yet.
