Ice report 12/04/2022 The North West end of the lake froze this past Thursday there was still a small area of open water yesterday that has frozen overnight. So this end of the lake the ice is thin and not safe to go on. There are people fishing on the South end Bays Isle, Wahkon and Cove where they have considerably more ice. I went through Isle on Friday and there were some ATV’S out on the ice in the bay. Be safe check with nearby resorts on the side of the lake where you want to go fishing.

07/19/2022 Fishing this weekend was very good both for Walleyes and Smallmouth Bass. Our launches caught a lot of big bass and a lot of Walleyes. Walleye fishing was the best on the mud flats, we used night crawlers and leeches on a plain Gamakatsu hook. Smallmouth bass were being caught on the rocks from

7/13/2022 Walleye fishing and the use of live bait will once again be allowed this coming Saturday July 16th. The anglers and businesses really got the shaft this year with the 15 day bait and walleye closure. They purposely drive people away from the lake with this regulation. This year there harvest and mortality numbers were about one third of what they expected by the end of June but they implemented the 15 day no bait and walleye closure anyway. If they do not want people fishing for walleyes for 15 days fine then make the mud flats off limits that is where the majority of them are this time of the year. Smallmouth bass are being caught on the rock points and reefs in 5 to 19 feet of water. Northern pike and Muskie fishing has been slow some are being caught in the bays.

6/01/2022 Walleye fishing is improving since the majority of the fish have moved out to the mud flats. Smallmouth bass are spawning and are being caught on the shallow rock points. A few northern pike and musky have been caught in the bays. This will improve as the weeds continue to grow.

2/25/2022 After being battered by high winds and a lot of snow we were able to open up some of our roads for this weekend. We have roads open with spots plowed for wheel houses at Curly’s flat, St. Albans bay rock pile, Byrons rocks and Seguchie point. Fishing in these areas has been as good as anywhere on the lake. Walleye action continues to be slow and a few Jumbo perch and Northern Pike are also being caught.

01/24/2022 We checked ice again today out to Curly’s flat and Rock Pile flat. The ice on the road we have plowed to Rock Pile Flat had 17 inches off the road we found 11 and 12 inches. Going to Curly’s we found 11 to 14 inches and areas of slush and water. We will allow truck and portable fish house traffic to Rock Pile flat but no wheel houses the ice is not thick enough off the road. If the water spots freeze up to Curly’s we might be able to allow truck traffic by the weekend. Fishing remains slow but some good catches have been reported by snowmobilers who are drilling a lot of holes and moving around on the flats.

01/20/2022 We checked ice again yesterday out on the flats and we still found a lot of areas where the ice was 9 to 12 inches thick. This is not enough ice to allow truck traffic out there. There were also some large areas with slush. Ice in the bay is good, we have plowed roads and we are allowing trucks and wheel houses. We will plow you a spot if you need one. We will check the ice out on the flats again next week. The forecast is for several more inches of snow which is not good for making ice.

01/15/2022 We took the plows out to Curly’s flat yesterday and there is still to much water on the road so it will remained closed until later in the week the below zero temps we have coming this week should heal everything up for next weekend. We have a dry road to Rock pile flat but we had one of our customers yesterday tell us he found some 9 inch ice on Rock pile flat. When we checked out there we did not find any ice that thin, however I do believe our customer and therefore we are also closing that road until the end of next week. St. Albans Bay has had very little fishing pressure and offers a lot of area to fish. If you have a wheel house we will plow you a spot to fish in the bay.
